AFTERCARE

TAKING IT EASY
You have just received a brand new tattoo, so now it’s time to give yourself a break and let your body recover. A healthy you will equal a healthy tattoo!

BANDAGES
Second Skin (tegaderm, saniderm, tattooderm) – clear adhesive that looks like sticky cling wrap. You will be keeping this on for up to maximum of 3 days. It is waterproof and you can shower with it!

Important: Some with sensitive skin or eczema may experience irritation with second skin. If you see visible signs of rash or redness in or around the area of bandaging, take off the bandage and follow instructions as normal.

Regular bandage – cling wrap or gauze pads. You will be keeping this on for a minimum of 2 hours to a max of 5 hours.

AFTER THE BANDAGE COMES OFF
For the first week, please use a non-scented antibacterial soap to clean your tattoo a minimum of twice(2) a day. It’s important to keep your skin clean, but do not over wash it!

After cleansing, please dry off with clean paper towels and apply ointment.

Suggested products: Dial Gold hand soap (pump), Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, A&D are the basics.

Do not use: Any ointments that contain honey, CBD oil, hyaluronic acid or anything you wouldn’t put on an open wound. *PS, if you’re not sure, just go basic!*

For the second and third week, your tattoo is starting to heal and scab over, do not scratch or pick at it! You may go ahead and switch over to a non-scented body or hand lotion.

The goal of ointments and lotions is to keep your skin healthy. Don’t cover your skin with thick layers of either product. Let your pores breathe!

WHAT IS NORMAL?
If you receive second skin bandaging, excess ink, blood, plasma, and body fluids will pool up underneath the bandage. It’s normal for your tattoo to look blurry and spread out under the bandage.

During the 3 weeks of healing, you will be itchy, don’t scratch! If you get a larger piece, you will see slight to moderate peeling depending on the coverage of the ink.

WHAT CAN I DO DURING HEALING?
You can absolutely do the following:
  • Go on with daily life
  • Tell people about your awesome new tat
  • Occasionally indulge in expensive food

You cannot:
  • Heavily exercise
  • Drink heavily
  • Swim
  • Go to a sauna/spa
  • Scrub your tattooed area
  • Heavily exercise (sweat can lead to infection if not properly cleaned)
  • Tan

If you do these forbidden acts, your tattoo may heal improperly and cause missing ink or fading!
